Sailing Between the Stars?

Okay, that's a new thought! Steven James' words, well, they are almost lyrics, have been imprinted deeply in my soul as I've been reading his book, 'Sailing Between the Stars - Musings on the Mysteries of Faith.' Steven shares, "I think God's love is meant to be encountered, received, embraced, even guzzled and gobbled by famished souls, but not necessarily understood".

Steven said, "Paul calls Jesus the mystery of God' (Colossians 2:2 NIV). Most of the time I tend to picture truth and mystery and lying on different ends of a continuum, but Jesus reveals that they're simple opposite facets of the same thing-- God's love made real in the world. Mystery and truth lie in the same direction and the same place--within the heart of a man born in a stable. He is truth wrapped in mystery; wonder wrapped in love. For a long time my life was adrift, but when I discovered where to lash my boast, I finally found a dock that would not float away, as well as a sail that would take me into the deepest waters of life".

Wow.....Steven's words wake up my soul and cause me to long for more... more relaxing into the Mystery that our Creator brings into our little world. More guzzling and gobbling because my soul is famished. More enjoying and embracing His love, His grace and His presence and not trying to understand it, just receiving.

I share one more thought from 'Sailing Between the Stars' -- "In the end, the question at the heart of Christianity is not 'Who do I want to be' but 'Whose do I want to become--my own or His?'

Steven wrote these words...

the carpenter picks up the saw
and walks toward me again.
I shudder and gasp, "why?
why is he torturing me like this?"
but then, after the blade
has done it's work, I realize that
in the hands of a master carpenter,
no piece of wood is safe
from becoming a masterpiece.

Whew....Steven, thank you for being who you are and for sharing your lyrical thoughts with me. Thank you Papa God for changing me deep within through these words. I want to be Your masterpiece.

Psalm 43:3-5

3-4 Give me your lantern and compass,

give me a map,

so I can find my way to the sacred mountain,

to the place of your presence,

To enter the place of worship,

meet my exuberant God,

Sing my thanks with a harp,

magnificent God, my God.

5. Why are you down in the dumps, dear soul?

Why are you crying the blues?

Fix my eyes on God—

soon I'll be praising again.

He puts a smile on my face.

He's my God.

The Message Translation

No I cannot count the ways you have made my life so blessed
All I know is that you came and made beauty of my mess

And you make me happy
You make me feel the way I do
You make me happy
I want to make you happy too

God’s Eraser

Back & forth

God’s eraser

rubs out my

sin, He leaves

no trace of

residue, for His

blood is poured

out all over

my heart

& now

I’m clean.

He brushes

Off the pages

Of my days.

I start again.

© 2005 Marie Nease

Memories of you are etched in my heart, like wrinkles on an elderly, smiling face,

they will never disappear. They only grow deeper... Why is that?

Random thoughts of you drift through my days like fluffy clouds on a blue sky day; I lift my face to the sky and dream... of your touch, your warmth...you...

I ponder the reasons, the meaning of this loss...no answers surface...I grow cold and yearn for the warmth of you beside me, above me, breathing the way you do and sharing all of you....

Is it true that my arms are not meant to hold you?

Is it true that my lips are not meant to brush yours?

Is it true that my eyes are not meant to gaze into yours?

Then Father, give me grace to understand.

Hope to look forward

to what you’ve prepared for me.

I place my heart in your care.

You have much better

If I will just let go….

~~~~~~~~~
 But she who would be born again indeed,
Must wake her soul unnumbered times a day,
And urge herself to life with holy greed;
Now open her bosom to the Wind's free play;
And now, with patience forceful, hard, lie still,
submissive and ready to the making will,
thirsty and empty, for God's breath to fill!
Going beyond words
Going beyond words
to a place where
Spirit touches spirit.
A place where time
no longer matters.
Going beyond words
to a residence where
God Himself fills the air
& no words are needed.
Deep calls to deep
My spirit filled
with Your Spirit.
I understand Your heart’s cry;
You answer my why.
Going beyond words
Earthly realm left far behind.
Sounds of heaven’s wonder
& earth receives with awe
Your touch….
Your changing touch.
In a lonesome place
as sun crosses the circle of sky.
Moments merge into hours;
hours into days.
Will I raise eyes and heart
and sense His warmth
or get lost in this cold earth?
Lip dragging the ground
or spirit touching sky?
Laying down heaviness...
reaching for His fingers;
mingling with heaven's
music, allowing the Son
to lift my chin upward.
Seems like someone's praying
as sun crosses the circle of sky.
Will hope buoy lonesome me?
Technicolor World
All winter, under the cold, damp earth we’ve been germinating and preparing for the moment when the everything is just right for us to begin the process of reaching toward the warm sunshine.
We begin to push the dirt aside
and start making our way toward the light. We feel the damp, cold earth warming as we rise, closer to the heat of the magnificent sun.
Excitedly wiggling our way higher and higher, we are moved by some inward intuition given by our creator, a passion we may not understand, yet we are inspired to continue upward.
With one last push,
the soil gives way and the brightness of spring blinds us in brilliant light!
Ah, glorious day!
We stretch and raise our fresh green “fingers” and we feel the intense warmth of the light and we wave joyful praises to our Creator.
Through a slow, yet divine process, we’ve awakened to new life after the lengthy darkness of Winter dormancy.
Spiritually, through the power
of the Holy Spirit,
we move from a black & white winter world into the
Technicolor World of Spring!
God’s love for us causes us to live through the dark winter of preparation and development and then He provides the passion and power that we need to p-u-s-h our way upward through the soil to find the warmth of the
light of the Sun.
It welcomes us with amazing joy!!
THANKFUL....
I am thankful that the Creator of the Universe and galaxies, meteors comets and stars knows me, loves me, speaks to me and keeps working in me, as imperfect as I am.....
I am thankful that the Lord speaks to me and that sometimes I hear, listen and cool things happen. Like recently when I sensed I needed to go and be with a mom whose son was missing near Buford Dam. We prayed for the mom as she agonized and we prayed for Andrew, the son, to be found and just before dark, as the moon rose above the dam, the search crew found him!
I am thankful for my bills being paid and a good career that I enjoy. For being able to pay off my credit card soon. For my improving credit.
I am thankful for family and friends, for hugs and smiles, for living in the USA and the freedom I have. I am thankful that I can freely go to church, without being persecuted. Thankful that I can go to the "cathedral of the lake" and enjoy the peace I find there...... (my favorite place to visit at Lake Lanier)
I am thankful that I have experienced love, in giving and receiving, in it's many forms and delights and though I don't always understand, I have known the love of Jesus, the love of a mother for her children, the love of my Mom and Dad for me, the love of a friend, the love of a man, the love of life........
I am thankful for autumn leaves that glow, just before they die, then fall.... for rivers that sparkle and waterfalls that flow, mountains to climb and valleys to rest in. Thankful that Spring always buds after winter's snow and ice finally thaws.....
Thankful that hurts and wounds do heal....that forgiveness covers sins and mistakes we make....I am thankful that when my heart hurts and needs release that God has given the gift of tears.... I am thankful for giggles and belly laughs and friends to share those moments with.
I am thankful for brilliant sunrises that light up morning sky and sunsets that catch clouds on fire and bring a hush to the earth as it pulls the covers up on the day.
I am thankful for sweet memories of moments, of days of years that have shaped and molded me and made me who I am. I am thankful for the the moments that will turn into the future of who I will become.
I am thankful that I learn from falling and skinning my knees and I learn by getting back up again and continuing to walk forward, though some days I am not sure which way to go...... but knowing I will always be lead by an unseen hand..........
Falling….
Autumn leaves
Fall.... as they
Release
Uninhibited
Boundless
Unreserved
They let go….
And fall…..
Leaving an example
I should follow….
Uninhibited
Boundless
Unreserved
I release
I let go…..
Why don't you take a journey with me to The Edge of the World?
A weather front making its way through the area brings spring-like warmth to a day early in December. There is something stirring deep inside your heart, brought on by the warm day, a longing… any hopeful romantic would be stirred on a day like this.
You decide to venture out into the woods on this remarkable day. There is a hunger in your heart for something you can’t quite identify, yet it is strong and very real. A lonely ache pierces you deeply, as you wish for a companion to share these moments with.
You whisper to the Lord, There is such a longing, such a hunger within me. Would you fill it, will you fill me with more than this world has to offer? It just doesn’t satisfy…
You grab a few books, your journal and some water and your backpack, toss it into the car and begin winding through the countryside. It doesn’t seem to matter where you end up, your hunger leads you on and you’ll know when you find the ideal spot to stop and ponder life and meditate on what this deep hunger is that you feel.
A sense of anticipation begins to build as the road twists and turns and begins more of an uphill climb into the mountains.
~ Can you sense it? Can you feel the longing growing? Cry out to your Abba, Father to help you be acutely aware of His presence and His ability to satisfy every longing, every hunger. ~
As the old country road winds downhill toward the river, leaves twirl around across the road ahead. ~ Oh Father, how I need you to be with me on this afternoon adventure. Please, join me, speak to me… ~
When you round the corner, before a bridge, you realize, this is where you’ve been longing to be so you pull off the road and park.
A trail to the left of the bridge leads down a steep rocky cliff to the Amicalola River and according to what you’ve heard, along the river about a mile to a beautiful place you’ve only heard about, but never experienced. It is called The Edge of the World.
Ah, a cool breeze blows your hair all around and you smile, glad to be here and knowing, somehow, the Lord, will meet you here. Could this stirring be a spiritual hunger, way beyond any hunger of this world?
Carefully you descend to the flowing waters, listening as the music of the river grows more intense and more beautiful, as it makes it way over rocks and boulders.
Other than the sound of the birds and the flowing water, you are alone, but for the presence of your Lord, for you sense Him near as a breath.
The path follows the sound of the cascading water. You bow as you go under boughs of Mountain Laurel and Rhododendron. You are acutely aware that your heart is beginning to bow in reverence in awe of the God of this beauty, as you follow the river’s path.
Suddenly, you feel the sensation of falling as you trip over a root and you hit the cool muddy ground. Hot, fiery pain shoots through your ankle and tears begin to flow down your cheeks. Panic begins to rise as you realize, you are utterly alone.
Trying to get up, you grab a nearby branch of a tree and pull, but it breaks under the pressure. You fall to the ground, with a rush of air being knocked out of you, you breathe a cry of help. Father, I know you are here with me, I’ve felt your presence as we’ve walked along the river. Please, help me, you are the only one here to help me!
Only the sound of wind and flowing water is heard as you sit on the cool ground and wait. You wince at the pain in your ankle, realizing that along with the throbbing in your ankle that it has begun to swell up almost twice its normal size.
Time passes slowly...shoulders drooping, yet trying to hope and trust, you realize you hear the sound of leaves crunching. Heart pounding, you turn and off in the distance you see a man headed in your direction, hair blowing in the breeze. Is that you Lord? He smiles and you recognize His smile, the kind way He looks at you with compassion… yes, it’s you, Lord! Oh, you are with me always, here to help me when I fall and I'm helpless on my own.
Jesus bends down, looks into your eyes and then leans in and gently holds you in a comforting embrace. He bandages your ankle and lifts you up into His arms and heads down the trail. Surprised, you realize He is headed further down the trail and not back out to the road. In His strong arms, you know you are safe though, so you rest, anticipating where He is taking you. Bowing low under more Laurel branches and then up a steep hill, then back down, you emerge by the river. He takes you out across the boulders in the river and gently places you on a smooth rock right by the rapids, where the river rushes by. This is the Edge of the World!
The powerful rapids roar and splash and such joy begins to fill your soul as you experience this amazing, exhilarating place with your lover, Jesus at your side.
~ What does He say to you? What do you sense during these moments? ~
Time slows as you savor the moments of peace as you rest with your Lord, at the Edge of the World. The river tumbles and splashes over the rapids. The hunger you were feeling begins to be satisfied as you rest in the arms of your Lord and watch the river flow by. The longing and deep ache is soothed as sounds of the rushing river wash over your soul.
You can go to the "edge of the world" and know that your God will meet you there. Only He is able to fully satisfy all your hunger and longings.
~~~~~ Blueness ~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Drove till I found a winding trail,
crushing leaves, I ponder as I
twist and turn--
Pulse quickening, heart thumping,
thoughts take a more leisurely pace.
Warm rock beneath
my resting head
Rays of brightness
a remedy to my spirit.
As eyes are washed with
impressions of blue,
breezes that renew,
I hear melodies that massage
my soul and peace is birthed
from a quiet womb I discover
beside the blueness and the ripples
washing against the shore
of me.
~ The Geography of God ~
~~~~~~~

There are rivers within the canyon of God
that we’ve not yet stripped off our clothes
and run butt naked into…
Oh, let’s dive in and experience the most incredible
rush of His love
flowing in and through us…

There are stars within the galaxy of God
that we’ve not yet reached in our exploration
of Him to find ourselves merged with the heat and the light
that is beaming from His deepest heart
of love shining in and through us.

There are fragrances within the flower of God
that we’ve not yet fully breathed in--
of life and scent filling our nostrils
with invigorating drunkenness of
sweetness His Spirit wafts in our direction
on the breeze.

There are depths in the ocean of God
that we’ve not fathomed nor have we plunged
bravely to the places where mysteries
of the deep are revealed
to those whose eyes have adjusted
to dark places to be explored in the ocean
of His love.

There are caresses from the hands of God
That we’ve not yet allowed to wrap around our frame--
to nestle into the hiding place
that is God—let us welcome His intimate
touch that heal wounds in our deepest heart.

There are bridges that cross the chasms of what we know
of God and who He truly is. There are gulfs between what is true and what we’ve understood up until this moment--
In the progress and the movement and the building of the
bridges that take us across the gaps in our hearts…

There are harmonies within the music of God
That we’ve not yet heard with the ear
of our spirit—melodies that will cause our hearts
to dance with wild abandon
await us, in the depths of the symphony He orchestrates…

...Touched...

I was touched by the playful interaction between a daddy and his little girl at the park. As I walked and took pictures, they rode bikes and laughed. I stopped to sit on a bench and enjoy the sunset; they got off their bikes and the daughter said, "Daddy...try to catch me!" and off she ran. I watched, my eyes misting, as they chased each other and giggled and eventually, the daddy let himself be caught. They fell to the grass, happy... and they laid there watching the sky. The daddy got up and spun his little girl around and around and carried her on his shoulders for some time. I began to feel tears rolling down my cheeks...it really affected me. Thenin the midst of that moment, I heard a voice, and I knew it was the voice of my Abba, my daddy God whispering...come chase me! I want you to want ME! Wow... The God who created this place we live in and all that is beyond and who created us, wants to be wanted, He loves to interact with us, to love us and to receive our love in return! Sweet... I'm off to chase Him... :-)

Oh God, You are the fountain
From which I long to drink my fill.
Immerse me deeply, oh do not restrain!
Spirit to spirit, Your love to instill.

Oh God, You are the spring
Of life’s happiness I thirst after.
Source so deep, joy you bring;
just Your touch sparks laughter.

Oh God, You are the well
Of infinite delight
No earthly words can tell
of the passion you ignite!

Oh God, You’re a precious mine
filled with jewels and gold.
Beyond all worth, You’re divine
The price you paid, untold.

Oh God, You are brilliant light
Your radiance erases all shade & shadow.
Basking in Your love, I find my night
is gone and the sun again finds my window.

~ ~ Christ, be Formed in Me ~ ~

Christ, be formed in me
until Your reflection you see.
Purify my heart until
it is perfect and so still.

Christ, be formed in me today,
May Your words be in all I say;
Your touch is what they need to feel
so then they’ll know Your love is real.

Christ, be formed in my seeing
until You fill my being
and my vision becomes clear
then selfish desires disappear.

Christ, be formed in all my ways;
Walking Your path all my days.
Christ be formed in my heart,
in Your image, set apart.

Breathe ~ ~

With every breath I’m thankful for a God who knows every breath we breathe and when we’re having difficulty even breathing….

I’d never seen inside of an ambulance until recently, which is a good thing! However, I am very thankful for the wonderful EMT’s who took care of me when I called 911 on Tuesday night when my breathing turned to wheezing & my eyes were swelling in the midst of an acute allergic reaction. My blood pressure dropped and apparently I wasn’t doing too well on the way to the ER. With God’s touch, a shot of Adrenaline and a lot of Benadryl, they released me from the ER 5 hours later. It sure felt good when my sister took me home to my own bed. I sensed such peace during the time at the ER as God moved through the nurses, doctors and also sent friends and family to be there with me.

Funny how an experience like this wakes you up! My eyes and my heart are wide open and I am more thankful than ever for life, for breath and for a big, loving God who takes care of us during scary moments! I’m thankful for my family and friends and how much they mean to my life!

As I pulled into a parking place at my apartment, the day before my trip to the ER, a dove landed on a large rock in front of my car and sat, gazing at me. Such a peace filled that sweet moment as the dove was a visible reminder of the Holy Spirit’s constant presence with us.

Most know the dove is a symbol of the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, because of Matt. 3:16 "And when Jesus had been baptized, just as he came up from the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to him and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him.

John 14: 26-28 But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will cause you to recall (will remind you of, bring to your remembrance) everything I have told you.
27 Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]
28 You heard Me tell you, I am going away and I am coming [back] to you. If you [really] loved Me, you would have been glad, because I am going to the Father; for the Father is greater and mightier than I am

Amplified Version

Sunday, August 07, 2005

The part we play in knowing God
is like a song, composed of notes,
measures, crescendos and rests
that form the melody
of us allowing Him
to grasp us…
To take hold of our hearts
and gently hold us
in a close embrace--
Our ears listening
to the beating of His heart.
slowly but surely
our heart begins to beat
in unison
with His.

We begin
to hear like His ears hear
speak like His voice speaks

see like His eyes see
touch like His hands touch
love like His heart loves and
to die to self like He died for us.

Inspired by Rainier Maria Rilke's words...

~~~~~~~~~
"When I saw others straining toward God,
I did not understand it, for though I may have had
Him less than they did, there was no one blocking
the way between Him and me, and I could reach
His heart easily. It is up to Him, after all, to have us, our part
consists of almost solely in letting Him grasp us."
Peace
settles on my life like a spring snow,
softly covering everything, making it glisten.
Joy
falls into my life like a gentle rain shower,
soaking and refreshing all it touches.
Love
wraps itself around me like a warm hug,
embracing and accepting every part of me.
Jesus is my peace, my joy & my love...
All that You Are
Listening to rain falling
Awakens my spirit to Your calling...
Gently washing my world again
of every sin and stain.
Lifting my face into your refreshing
our hearts are fully meshing.
Into You I am running,
for Your light is so stunning.
Raindrops quietly drenching the ground
as Your presence falls, peace abounds.
Welcome drops of Your glory rain down.
Your fullness circles all around.
Fresh is the breeze that blows tonight
as I look to you and invite
Your spirit to totally infuse my heart
and deep within me to impart,
all that You are.
